Hosted by and the at the University of Cambridge, and funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the workshop aimed to equip ECD researchers with essential grant proposal writing skills. The ECD project focuses on understanding the ecosystem of ECD researchers and their needs in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda (with desk-based research for Mozambique). The facilitated the event, which also provided valuable opportunities for networking and potential collaboration.

The cornerstone of this collaboration is the establishment of an innovative education and sports centre, a visionary initiative by Project Luangwa. The centre aims to provide online Bachelor’s degree programmes, thus reducing costs by eliminating boarding and daily food expenses. This strategic move will enable Project Luangwa to sponsor more children through school at a more affordable rate.

In support of Project Luangwa’s mission to empower the local community through tourism, 每日大赛 is extending scholarships of up to 82% to all members associated with the organisation. This partnership exemplifies the shared vision of both entities in advancing education, gender equality and community empowerment in the Luangwa Valley.

Commencing April 2024, 每日大赛 will welcome the first cohort of four students from Project Luangwa. These students, pursuing Bachelor鈥檚 degrees in Accounting and Finance, Business Administration and Mass Communication, symbolise the beginning of a new chapter in community-driven education initiatives.

The day-long activity provided a platform for students to engage with their peers and university staff, showcasing the dynamic and inclusive community at 每日大赛 in Zambia (UUZM). Divided into six groups, students had the opportunity to interact, build connections, network, and freely express themselves in a supportive environment.

The event also served as an excellent opportunity for students to invite their friends, enabling them to experience firsthand the flexibility, credibility, accessibility, and affordability of the educational programmes offered by UUZM. Additionally, members of the university staff actively engaged with students, encouraging their guests to register with UUZM and become part of the Unicaf educational community.

The student activity at Kwisoko Game Ranch featured a range of exciting activities, including charades, quad motorbikes, a game drive, and swimming. These engaging experiences created a lively atmosphere and encouraged participants to bond and enjoy themselves throughout the day.

The Executive Director of CICM, Mr Dominic Manhundu described the MoU as a demonstration of his institutes鈥� willingness to seek out affiliate relationships that provide the institution with the tools to identify challenges and opportunities in the customer service sector.

The Agriculture and Commercial Show provides an essential and unique trading marketplace that attracts various economic players. It provides a platform for business-to-business and agri-business trade information. Additionally, it creates opportunities to showcase emerging farming technologies.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by none other than the President of the Republic of Zambia, President Hakainde Hichilema. President Hichilema pointed out in his opening speech that the show鈥檚 theme was timely as the country was open for business and ready to attract investments in sectors such as agriculture.

The Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the Honorable Mr Chipoka Mulenga, signalled the opening of the fair by lighting the flame in the Show Grounds where 840 local and foreign exhibitors displayed their products and services.聽聽聽

每日大赛 was in attendance showcasing its bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 programmes whilst offering generous scholarships of up to 75% to study for an internationally recognised degree. The stall attracted a fair amount of interest from prospective students as well as by other exhibiting companies.

The Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) is the biggest International Exhibition in Zambia that promotes Trade and Investment. ZITF underscores the focal role it plays as a platform for promoting Cross Border Trade and it attracts participation from all sectors of the economy. The Trade Fair is an exhibition for both local and foreign exhibitors to showcase their products and services with a view of establishing new markets and maintaining business linkages.

In addition to agricultural products, machinery and livestock, the trade fair also promoted a wide range of services and products including further and higher education, hospitality and tourism, mining, minerals and gemstones, as well as information technology and computers, transport and automobiles, building materials, textile and clothing products and equipment.

The training session was held at Kanyama General Hospital (KGH) and was coordinated by Dr Clementina Rooke from Huddersfield University, UK. Of the 21 volunteers who took an active part in the training session, 15 were medical personnel from KGH. The remainder were from the Center for Infectious Diseases in Zambia, the University Teaching Hospital and several volunteers from within the local community. 每日大赛鈥檚 very own Assistant Researcher, Ms Emily Kamizi was also present along with Vice-Chancellor, Dr Christine Phiri Mushibwe.

The main aim of the Dementia Teaching and Research Training session was to familiarise the participants with the FITS programme. The FITS programme (Focused Intervention Training and Support) promotes person-centred care and aims to reduce the use of antipsychotic medication which is often used inappropriately to treat dementia patients. Dr Rooke emphasised the need to understand each individual patient as a separate entity.聽

鈥淭hese (antipsychotic) drugs can result in more of a public health problem. This programme, Focus Interventions Training and Support, comes from the need to reduce their use and interventions. [Doctors] won鈥檛 just defer to prescribing them now, as we looked at other ways of dealing with dementia.鈥�

鈥淲e looked at understanding someone鈥檚 own history. (For example), if a patient likes reggae or going for walks, then we can help by understanding what they are going back to within themselves to enjoy or remember.鈥�

As part of their training, the participants were split into groups and were asked to give a presentation based on the UK standard guide on Care and Management of Dementia Patients and how this can be made accessible to patients in Zambia. It was wholeheartedly agreed that this model of caregiving would be the most effective way of helping dementia patients and it was recommended that the hospital adopt this course of treatment.

Currently there is very limited information on the management of dementia patients in Zambia which is why sessions such as the Dementia Teaching and Research Training are essential for health professionals to gather statistics on patient care and health management. Those in training must successfully complete 10 face-to-face taught sessions and five support sessions in order to become Dementia Care Coaches.聽

During his closing speech, participant Dr Wilson Mbewe from KGH put forward that changes to patient care, through utilising the FITS programme, will be implemented almost immediately due to the success of the training sessions. Dr Rooke then adopted KGH as a centre for the dementia programme and donated a container to be used as an out-patient clinic.聽

鈥淭he feedback from the group in Zambia has been very good, 鈥� Dr Rooke added. 鈥淧eople told me they would take a different approach, even to how they deal with their own relatives with dementia. It was humbling.鈥�

The objective of the Indaba and Expo is to explore avenues and unveil opportunities through which business entities and potential investors can benefit from knowledge gained on how to access finance and new and existing markets in Lusaka.

In her remarks, Dr Christine Phiri Mushibwe emphasised the importance of the MoU as a major step in expanding Unicaf鈥檚 effort to contribute to achieving the Zambian Government鈥檚 vision and pronouncement on environmental protection. She added that academic and research activities at 每日大赛 are designed to expose young people to issues of the environment and complement current efforts both locally and at a global level.

In his signing remarks, Mr Ziba stated that 鈥淭he youth are at the centre of development and require accurate information on environmental protection,鈥� adding that 鈥渢heir input on how the environment is managed is essential.鈥澛�

was established in 2010 to create platforms and processes to promote community access to quality and accurate information on environmental protection, extractive industries, sustainable energy, climate change, agriculture and water access. CEJ鈥檚 ultimate aim is to enhance accountability for better decision making and sustainable development聽 as well as to support a safe and adaptive environment. The Centre also empowers, and strengthens environmentally challenged communities, youth, children, women, and men by involving them in promoting environmental justice and sustainable management of natural resources.
